Foundations Pathway

Our Foundations Pathway provides a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for Key Stage 3 students who may need additional support with emotional regulation, communication, confidence, engagement in learning, or transitions into education. Many young people within the pathway have social communication needs and benefit from smaller group settings, consistent routines, and highly personalised approaches that help them feel secure, understood, and ready to learn.

Students follow a broad and balanced curriculum, with core subjects including English, Maths, Science, and PSHE taught as discrete disciplines. Each morning begins with focused sessions that support the development of literacy, reading, communication, and numeracy skills, helping students build confidence and readiness for learning throughout the day. Foundation subjects such as History, Geography, RE, and Art are delivered through a thematic, project-based approach that encourages curiosity, creativity, and engagement. Students also access Outdoor Education as a separate part of the curriculum, helping to build confidence, resilience, teamwork, and independence.

Through personalised support, therapeutic interventions, and meaningful learning experiences, students are encouraged to grow at their own pace in an environment where they feel valued and supported. The Foundations Pathway helps young people develop the confidence, resilience, and skills needed to progress successfully into the next stage of their education journey.
